Purpose
The communications system provides wireless links to monitor and control spacecraft, to download payload data, and to provide services for tracking and ranging.
Overview
Communications systems work is under way in a couple groups and teams. Most recently, the Balloon Flights team is developing and validating rover system components in the stratosphere. The PicoSAR effort is research and development in low power, short range radar -- with derivatives having potential for dual use antenna for lander- rover communications. Additional work is under way in the research & development of Earth- Moon communications.
