Guidelines for working in the wiki
From TeamFrednetWiki
- Generally, you do not need permission to make an edit. Be bold. If you make an mistake, it can always be reverted.
- Keep an eye on the pages you contribute to using the 'Watch' and 'Recent changes' features.
- If there is a difference of opinion over a particular edit, use the article's talk page to reach agreement.
- With the exception of talk pages, status reports and the like, always write in passive voice (not "I").
- Do not use article titles that are overly general such as "Organization" or "Architecture" unless the article pertains to the whole project or mission.
- Do not post copyrighted material in the wiki. Instead post a reference to the material in question and ask people to acquire it legally if they are interested.
- Include each page and uploaded image in a category. Observe the hierarchical order, e.g. something that is specific to Jaluro should belong to Category:Jaluro and not Category:Rover (since the Jaluro already belongs to Rover).
- Provide a description for uploaded images as well as the chosen license.
- Old images can't be deleted. Upload a new one with the same name but incremented version.
- Tip: add new pages by first creating a link in another, relevant page, and then clicking on it to access the editor. This helps avoid broken links and orphaned pages.
Boilerplates
Templates for some generic article layouts are available:
- Group Portal Boilerplate (Deprecated)
- Portalize (Link pending)
To-dos
A to-do (as in "this we need to do"), or colliqually "a babyalarm", is a way to flag an article within the wiki that needs attention:- To be elaborated. The article has sections that need to elaborated upon.
- To be tabulated. The article has raw tabular data that needs to be properly formatted with wiki table codes.
- To be deleted. The article needs to be removed from the wiki by a wiki administrator.
- Needs attention. A generic distress signal. Provide additional information about the issue on the talk page. When the issue has been resolved, remove it from the talk page again.
